To Enhance or not Enhance, my thoughts... I actually use very little. I generally use a polarising filter on the lens (Same effect as Polarised sunglasses) Plus, by simply shooting when the sun is in the right position in sky, clouds and types etc., you can capture interesting hues and colours. And I MAY or MAY NOT depending on need; crop, adjust brightness, (for mainly shadows) adjust contrast, run a Haze Filter, increase colour saturation a bit (or decrease), adjust sharpness, apply shake reduction, remove unwanted people or objects. Sounds like a lot, but isn’t and I rarely use more than 1 or 2 of these. What I NEVER do is change colours.
Now it is true that in my opinion, some people “Enhance too much” (I make a conscious effort to try not to) but as a friend points out; “Enhancement is in the eye of the beholder” In other words, what you seeing is Art.
Art (Which I consider my photos to be) is an expression and or interpretation of what the artist is seeing or trying to convey through their medium. Some paint, some sculpt, others use music, there are many forms of Art. I happen to use a camera and computer.
I wonder how often the "Group of Seven” were told their paintings didn’t look EXACTLY like the original landscape?
Plus, we all “Enhance” in some way. Dress nice, makeup, hair, I could go on and on. Suffice it to say, can you imagine how boring and colourless our lives would be without Enhancement?
